Having just attended Manchester Show in snow and ice the weekend before, I think I was reasonably prepared for a trip to Moscow and temperatures of minus 15 degrees, possibly the coldest place I have been for a dog show anywhere!
A great panel of top international judges had been gathered by the organisers, headed up by Andrey Klishas (President of the Russian Hunting Federation) together with the support of Nicolas Pineiro, Katya and the hard working team.
The show featured 36 special club shows as well as the National All breed Show and as mentioned in the caption above, a number of UK judges were in evidence. Nice also to see Lisa Croft Elliot and Carrie Russell Smith as friendly faces on our arrival, having taken quite a while to drive from the hotel through traffic and of course deep snow that thankfully had largely been bulldozed to one side of the roads.
Inside the show centre it was warm and just like any other show in the world…you soon forgot about the cold and the snow outside. The show centre stayed busy throughout the day which had started about 12 noon and finished about 10pm at night…different to Manchester then!
Congratulations to the team for a well staged event and the winners and whole panel who really got on well and enjoyed the conditions!
More from the judges on their experiences and dogs they judged in a forthcoming issue of OUR DOGS. For now Spasibo i dosvidaniya!
A story with a happy ending!

Ridanflight Revelation To Kanix [Rudi]
Sire Kanix Ace Dam Ridanflight Rupara at Kanix
6 Years ago Thomas Wastiaux bought a puppy from us, the KANIX TEAM of Sigurd & Kari Wilberg and Joanne, John & Heather Blackburn-Bennett by SH Ch/AUST GR CH/NZ CH Chesterhope Let’s Be Serious at Kanix [Breeze]. Breeze was only in the UK for 20 months and was campaigned to 18 CCs by Joanne. The puppy was the litter brother to Ace, Rudi’s sire. Unfortunately the puppy caught a virus and died so we said we would replace him when a suitable dog was available. Steve Williams and Steve Rose were breeding pointers in partnership at this time and had the first UK bred litter by Breeze in which were Sh Ch Ridanflight Rangiora and Sh Ch Ridanflight Rockhampton also, the mother of RUDI, Ridanflight Rupara at Kanix. Rupara was a lovely bitch who lived with Steve Williams but was rarely shown because of Steve Williams’s work commitments and the two Steves had decided to end the partnership and carry on separately. Rudi’s sire, Ace, also residing with Steve W, was also a Breeze son out of Bracendown Buds of May, Grandaughter of Ch Calderside Love in a Mist at Wherathy, the famous CRUFTS GROUP winning pointer from several years ago.
Rudi, like his dam was not getting shown due to Steve W’s work commitments and Joanne’s spectacular winning time with SKC BIS Winner 2012, Sh Ch Kiswahili Martin At Kanix, another Breeze son, who has been Top Pointer or Top Male Pointer for many years meant that she nor Heather could be campaigning another male so Steve W, together with Kari & Sigurd and Joanne, John and Heather offered to let him go to Thomas as the replacement Joanne had originally offered.
At CRUFTS 2011 we asked Thomas whether he would be interested in Rudi and he fell in love with him. Thomas, a well known handler in Europe, could not believe that we would make a gift of this 18 months old dog who had the same markings as Robin, the puppy he lost. He owns Revelation himself with his wife Ekaterina, he is their baby!
He has won many groups and lots of Bests in Show in many countries and it was such a thrill to be there and see him go BIS at Moscow.
To round off a super weekend Rudi’s first litter was born in Hungary on the same day as his BIS.
