We have now had half of the year, one which is very active for us in DEYA photography team.
We are still covering many of the major shows in continental Europe and here we are give our highlights from the past six months.
We started with Ljubljana show this year, and you can say that they are refreshing their shows after the European show last year.
In Italy, Milano International Dog Show opens the season and it is the largest and one of the main Italian shows – great organisation, beautiful showground, friendly people and inexpensive accommodation – the show everyone should visit. It will also be the site of the World Show in 2015.
Some other shows, like Forli International, should follow the Milan example if they would like to be recognised on the map of Europe instead of staying more like a local show. A fantastic Terrier specialty was held there and that was truly a highlight for that show.
Padova, Reggio Emilia both have a long last tradition, it is always a pleasure to participate there. Special mention this year goes to the Montichiari show. The organisers made a great step from last year. Very refreshing to see, fantastic showground, excellent organisation. The different whole spirit with a few major specialties. Good job people!
We love Austria!
The country that has a special place in our calendars and the show we highly recommend is Austria. The Austrian Kennel Club is definitely prepared for their major event next year: the World Dog Show in Salzburg in May 2012! What is most fantastic about their show is that everything looks so effortless from the outside: all the great organisation, big shows with a lot of entries etc comes from the hard work. All the people we know there are doing this with a smile. So everybody can feel that they are at home in Austria.
So, international shows in Graz (big entries, the great showground, good judging panel), Wieselburg (on the north of this beautiful country, well organised as well, a special show for us with fantastic spirit, with a very warm and welcoming atmosphere), Salzburg (the great city, a home town of the great Mozart, a lot of history, one of the most beautiful places on earth brought up the one of the oldest shows in Austria organised by the local club with leading Kirschbichler family over the 60 years. This year was no exception. We were overcome as soon as we came into the showground. We are already very much excited about the World show which will be there and special arena with BIS ring. A lot of nice things for all of us is waiting in 2012.
In Hungary one of the best shows I’ve have ever been to was the Eastern International show in Szilvasvarad, a small picturesque place on the north of Hungary organised by the local KC and Koros family with some Major Specialties show and National Show for hunting breeds on Monday. Where to start?
From the top judging panels for Int. and Speciality’s, fantastic dogs from all over the Europe, a lovely showground, a huge entry, excellent food, a great solo concert in a local enchanting church, Supreme BIS winner whose major award is a horse who you can take with you, or you can leave to the Kennel Club and after the horse is sold and the money is divided between the winner and a local dog shelter. The third day starts with outdoor Catholic Mass for hunters and animals.
I truly had a great time there and if you want to spend a good holiday with your doggie friends, this is the show for you.
The dogs we will remember
There were so many beautiful dogs we met, so many great winners, but a special mention goes to the three exceptional ones. American Akita De Kaner’s Wolverine Revenge, owned by D’Amkiss Kennel, Italy handled mostly by Italian handler Fabio Allegra and with whom Denis Sabolic had a pleasure to win one of his numerous Best in Shows at Int. show in Forli this year.
Another dog I personally think is one of the best of his breed in Europe is Bearded Collie, Multi BIS Champion Ho I Mente Te Del Coure Impavido, owned by Filippo Ripoli, Italy; my BOB winner in Graz this year and the dog I am tracking from the beginning of his show career when he was awarded as a first Supreme BIS winner in Split three years ago. Last but not least is a wonderful upstanding Papillion, BIS winner Gatchaman Of Royal Blanche, owned by Weber/Matsuzaki, Germany, who won BIS on Sunday at International BIS under Mr Luis Pinto Teixeira, Portugal.
The great time we had despite the hard work and a lot of miles is mostly because of you, our friends and dear people, who are all sharing the same love for our lovely four-legged companions and this funniest show for us – the dog show.
Thank you all for the great times we always have on our trips. You make us feel welcome and at home wherever we are.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
