With almost the very same number of entries as last year, the spring show of Luxembourg seems to remain high on the list of everyone who wants to start a champion career for their dog. Last years total number of entries was 4,560, and this year it was 4,551.
Our Dogs was interested in a letter published recently in USA's dog magazine the Canine Chronicle. The American Kennel Club introduced a revolutionary - rather than evolutionary - new process for judges two years ago, which includes a Canine College, Mentoring, Workshop Study Groups and Judges Education Coordinators. We will not know for some time how successful the Judges Competency Framework introduced by our Kennel Club will be, but perhaps during the pilot stage of its introduction, we can learn from the AKC experience.
Spain is to ban the docking of dogs along with cropping ears, cutting vocal chords and removing their claws and teeth. Last week it was announced by the Scottish government that they were planning to relax their ban on docking and allow it for working and hunt point retrieve dogs.
Well it is no secret that the Best in Show winner is a beautiful dog and this win certainly pleased the ringside. Melanie Harwood had a smile as wide as the new Forth Bridge Crossing when she was awarded Best in Show.
The world of dogs suffered a loss last week when Ch Zentarr Elizabeth passed away at the age of 12. Owned by Margaret Anderson, the Lhasa Apso was BIS winner of Crufts 2012 judged by Frank Kane, writes Lynn-Alexandria McKendrick Elizabeth was born on the 29th January 2005.
Ch Merrybear D'Artagnan, owned by Lyn and Terry Chapman, took his first all breeds Best in Show win in the UK at Bath over the bank holiday weekend from an entry of 7629 dogs.
This year the World Terrier Show, the INTERRA was held in Maribor, Slovenia, on Easter Monday, April 17. There were three shows over the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday there were two International Shows, so it was a good opportunity for the Terrier owners to collect more titles in one weekend.
When you tell people you are going to Mexico, you get the usual comments about beans and sombreros. More recently the jokes concern walls and Donald Trump, but folks need to sit up and take a real hard look at what happens down Mexico way, as the Federacion Canofila Mexicana (the FCM) sure know how to put on a good event! I know it’s not easy to take a quick trip over from the UK, in fact about 12 hours from Heathrow and a bit less going back….but it’s great to see how they do dog shows on the other side of the world.
EIGHT Thousand seven hundred and seventy-one dogs from 35 countries attended the VDH-European Winner & International Exhibition 2016 in Dortmund last weekend. The show had a very healthy gate of 42,000 visitors who attended the show on one of the best weekends of the year in sunny conditions of 25 degrees.
We are pleased that the FCI has given the VDH the honorable and ambitious task of hosting the World Dog Show 2017. The World Dog Show will take place in Leipzig from 9 to 12 November 2017 and be the seventh World Dog show held in Germany (1935, 1956, 1973, 1981, 1991, 2003 and 2017).
Our grounds are located right by the Autobahn, near the Schkeuditzer Kreuz (interchange). The Leipzig/Halle airport is only eight minutes by Autobahn. If you arrive at the Leipzig main train station with the ICE, you can take the regional train (Regionalbahn/RB) or the rapid transit train (S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland) to reach the "Leipzig Messe" stop in just six minutes. If you are coming from downtown, the tram will get to you the grounds in approximately 20 minutes. How will you be arriving?
There are 14.000 parking spaces on the fairground. Ticket costs for cars: 6,00 EUR, for pick-up trucks: 13,00 EUR
Leipziger Messe: Compact, despite its large site. Functional – and yet aesthetic. More than 80,000 square metres of air-conditioned indoor exhibition space provide comfortable space for the rings.
