The Bulldog World Congress comes to Mexico City It is aways a pleasure to attend dog shows in Mexico and when the opportunity to attend the WBCF extravaganza presented opportunity, we jumped at it! The show was held on the fantastic grounds of the FCM campus in Mexico City.

The FCM is an extremely well run organization. The huge tents provided by the club sheltered us from the soggy weather. We are always treated so well by the hard working members of the club. Friday morning started early with bulldog related seminars held in the beautiful large auditorium. I was impressed with the electronic translators provided. It was lovely not to miss the presentation made by the Spanish speakers.

A marvelous lunch was provided during the break with several awards and acknowledgements made. I was excited to watch the judging. The dogs in Mexico are truly among the best in the world and the judging panel was truly first rate as well. I suppose here is a great place to remark about the spectacular trophies. Huge colorful ribbons and beautiful trophies. It all added to the splendor of the event.

The first specialty was held Saturday. Judges were Mark Kennedy and Ann Hubbard, both from the USA. Winners are as follows; Judge Mark Kennedy selected as his Best Puppy A out of 49 puppies was Riki (Salinas). Bred by Alejandro Salinas and owned by Victor Lopez and new owners Jack and Elizabeth Milam. Handled by Silvia Hernandez. Best Puppy B was D’Toledo’s White Sox Botas bred by Llely and Albeto Toledo (USA) and owned by Ray Mundo and Mario Vanegas.

Handled by Ricardo Blanco Vazquez. Winners Dog was the impressive white dog from Peru, Lanzabull’s Mister President owned by Dangello Anguo Vivanco Saavedra and handled by Edgar Chirinos Peña Winner’s Bitch was the very lovely Lola Beltran (Mata) also from Peru. Bred in Mexico by Armando Mata and owned by Enrique Loayza Aliaga. A great showing for Peruvian Bulldoggers. Out of a beautiful line up of Champions, Mrs. Hubbard selected Am Ch. and Mex GCh Lord Baden (Quiroz) as her Best of Breed. Bred by Guillermo Quiros and owned by Jessie de Jesus Arango Ayuzo. Handed by Alex Garcia.

Best of Opposite was the lovely Am GCh, Mex GCh. Maria Felix (Mata) bred and owned by Armando Mata and handled by Ivan Garza. Maria is the full sister of the winners bitch. A lovely achievement for their breeder. The WBCF show was the highlight of the weekend. I am a big supporter of this concept and it’s creator Stefan Sinko. Having a world organization working on behalf of the breed is a super idea and so necessary in this day and age. The three-judge concept is unique and I do believe was well accepted by the crowd as it provided an air of anticipation not experienced in a more traditional one-judge show situation.

The three judges were WBCF President Stefan Sinko, BCA Pesident Dr. John Little and The Bulldog Club Inc. President Mr. Brian Taylor. Quite a prestigious group! Best Puppy A was VLM Kaliman (Enzo). Bred by Ole Bulldogs and owned by Luis Gil handled by Sergio Gomez Suarez Best Puppy B was D’Toledo’s Vigilante The Cape “Gotham” bred by Llely and Alberto Toledo and owned by the breeders and Cody Orion.

Handled by Alex Garcia. Winners Dog and Best of Winners was a repeat from Saturday, the handsome Mr. President from Peru Winners Bitch was Chanel (Hernandez), Breeder, Owner Handled by DR. Eduardo Hernandez. Right before the Best of Breed was announced, we got treated to a fantastic Mariachi band in the ring. So festive. It really set the mood for the finale of the show. Best of Breed after a bit of discussion went to the very popular Ch. Dayanna (Hernandez). Breeder, Owner Handled by Dr. Eduardo Hernandez, Dayana happens to be the record holder for most Best in Specialty Show wins in Mexico for a Bulldog.

The Best of Opposite rosette was awarded to the current Number One Bulldog in Mexico, Multi Ch. El Tigre (Mendoza). He was bed by Fermin Mendoza Vazquez and Alvaro Garcia. Owned by Fermin, Alejandro Gutiérrez and Ricardo Blanco Vazquez, who is also his handler. If you have opportunity to attend a show in Mexico, by all means, do so.

Such a great atmosphere for dog fanciers. I am looking forward to the next WBCF event in Leipzig during the World Show weekend. I am honored to be judging for a second time along with long-time friends and colleagues Tony Darmanin and Petra Grell-Hansohm. If you are there, stop by the bulldog ring and say hello!
