EIGHT Thousand seven hundred and seventy-one dogs from 35 countries attended the VDH-European Winner & International Exhibition 2016 in Dortmund last weekend. The show had a very healthy gate of 42,000 visitors who attended the show on one of the best weekends of the year in sunny conditions of 25 degrees.

Traditionally now the May show also has a cat show attached and the October Show is set up as a dog and horse event. This is one of the reasons why the VDH draw such a healthy paying gate. There was a wide ranging judging panel which included many UK and Irish judges both for the main shows and also the many club shows that take place there. OUR DOGS attended as the international media partner of the VDH and presented some super Birdbrook Rosettes for BIS and Reserve BIS Both shows had their finale on Sunday evening; it was a pity that more people did not stay to the end just like at UK shows...it was a bit sparse around the main ring.

That was in direct contrast to the main ring all day long as there was a programme of interesting canine activities ranging from dog dancing, full agility competition, goat herding and Frisbee catching. One hall had a massive water filled tank for ‘dog diving’ as well! The VDH European Winner Show was won by the Lakeland terrier "Aiola by the beautiful mountains" whose owner Mr Friedrich Wilhelm Schöneberg had swept the board in many of the terrier classes.

Best in Show at International exhibition was the Afghan hound "Agha Djari's Blue Steel" from Germany who took the title for the second year in succession much to the delight of owner handler Karin! The VDH (German Kennel Club) can only be congratulated on another enjoyable, happy and efficient show as we now come to expect from this super professional organization. The next dog & cat show will take place on 19th-21st May 2017 More photos from the show in our next International edition.
