HAVING received an exciting invitation to judge in Malta, it was a fortunate opportunity for Ann and myself to have a short winter break.
When you think of Malta, you think of warm weather. During my stay to judge the Malta Canine Society Championship Show held over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, the 9th and 10th of February, the weather was reminiscent of home, being cold, windy and showers with only the odd glimpse of sun.
It was a great pleasure to be back in Malta, and at the end of the two days I had a line up of six top quality dogs.
From the Working Group, the Alaskan Malamute, Ivramwoodland Continue The Legend, full of breed type with correct topline, sloping slightly from withers. Strongly made and holds up himself when on the move. The runner up was the GSD, Rafaye Hakan, a beautiful example of the breed, without exaggeration and skilfully handled to show his smooth outline and excellent gait. It was unfortunate that the fireworks display in the area took place whilst the group was being judged, and he became a little over excited by the noise and was not as steady as the Malamute.
The show was well supported and held in a good size sports hall with an excellent, carpeted ring and had a great ringside. Organisation was impeccable.
The gundog group was won by the Cocker Spaniel, Asquanne Giraldi, a black dog of only 16 months, he has the most handsome, masculine head and is so well put together throughout and shows it on the move, he looked a picture!
