USA votes to split Akita breed

The Akita Club of America (ACA) has voted to split the breed in the USA. In a vote of members they decided by 210 votes to 58 to allow the Japanese Akita Club of America (JACA) to apply to the American Kennel Club (AKC) to recognise the breed.

Following the commotion concerning the decision of the Minister regarding the brachycephalic breeds, lots of messages have been circling on social media. 

Dutch Kennel Club Responds

OUR DOGS has now received a copy of the response from the board of the Raad van Beheer to the open letter from the President of the FCI, also shown here. This follows the developments in the Netherlands regarding the brachycephalic breeds as reported in OUR DOGS May 15th and 22nd. 

List of the breeds concerned: Affenpinscher, Boston Terrier, English Bulldog, French Bulldog, Griffon Belge, Griffon Bruxellois, Petit Brabancon, Japenese Chin, King Charles Spaniel, Pug, Pekingese, Shih Tzu.

Kennel Club announces agm arrangements

Abridged meeting to be held on 30th June - The originally arranged date for the Kennel Club AGM was May 12th but, after the Government’s Coronavirus lockdown was announced, the KC advised Members in April that it had decided to postpone the meeting to 30th June – the latest possible date according to the KC’s Articles of Association.

The Dutch KC in violation of FCI rules

On a recent social media post, Edwin stated,  “The decision of the Dutch Kennel Club, not to issue pedigrees from May 18th 2020.

Based on the latest unfortunate news from the Netherlands I can confirm that animal welfare has been an issue of great concern also in Finland. There is a high demand for healthier dogs and especially those from brachycephalic breeds.

IKC all shows cancelled for 2020

The Board of the Irish Kennel Club took the difficult decision to postpone the two IKC International Shows in March in the hope that we could re-schedule later in the year.

A South Korean dog meat farmer has given up on the trade and decided to grow vegetables instead because, ‘There is no future in this dog meat industry.’

Breeding controls in the Netherlands

Following negotiations with the Dutch Government over the last year, the Raad van Beheer (Dutch Kennel Club) has issued guidelines for the breeding and registration of certain named breeds. As with many situations in the world of dogs nowadays, social media has gone into meltdown this week with people in Holland even talking about relocating in other countries.
