The newly formed Canine Alliance was set up in the wake of the veterinary inspections at Crufts in which six of the fifteen high profile breeds were prevented from competing in their respective Groups on health grounds.
At the meeting it was agreed that the mission statement of the Alliance should be that “The Canine Alliance was formed to represent everyone involved with pedigree dogs, and to negotiate when necessary with any related organisations in the interest of all breeds.
ONLY SIX days after the original concept of a new voice for breeders, exhibitors and judges was launched on Facebook pages, the Canine Alliance was born out of apparent frustration and concern over the way in which the Kennel Club has started implementing the veterinary health checks at shows.
As well as introducing further detailed breed specific requirements and recommendations to the Assured Breeder Scheme, the Kennel Club has now extended the scheme so that it can cater for owners of stud dogs who themselves do not actually breed litters.
Members of the Kennel Club Judges Sub Committee recently held a meeting with representatives of the FCI to see if it might be possible to reach some compromise on the mutual recognition of judges at challenge certificate level - as between FCI counties and the UK.
