Brno International Show '12

Featured Written by
Two unusual BIS winners took top spot in Brno last weekend. BIS at the International show in Brno on day one was the Bloodhound, Arosa od Hadího Potoka...

Despite freezing local temperatures (-15!) and horrendous weather in the rest of Eastern Europe,
the Czech Kennel Club staged two successful International shows at the massive show complex in Brno.

The Duo Cacib show took place in Brno in the Czech Republic early in February. The show is now supported by Eukanuba and OUR DOGS has been the International Media Partner for a number of years. Yet again, despite freezing conditions across Europe that weekend, dog people in the area flocked to the show providing a very healthy entry of over 8000 dogs over the two days.

The Brno show ground is massive and is the site for the European dog show 2014 so the organisers are on a steep learning curve and need to be ready for what will be a show twice that of the present and it will bring a range of jobs to be done that demands a greater level of organisation than exists right now. Clearly the Czech population makes up most of the entry right now, but for the Euro show proper there will be massive interest from the whole of Europe, so stewarding, language skills, catering and a whole host of aspects need to be looked at.

This show now appears to be settling into a good pattern with the exhibitors packing into two main (huge) halls and the trade stands somewhat out on a limb with a few token rings in the same hall. Most trade people agree this is less than ideal for a European show where they will get many more trade applications.

This is one of the decisions facing the organisers as will be where to put the hordes of campers with their mobile homes and vehicles that will descend in 2014. I believe that the Euro show will take place later in the year, autumn time, which should certainly help with the temperature as in February we had to endure piercing cold that made the walk from the show hotel somewhat bracing to say the least.

A good international panel sorted out the breed classes and our photos show the group winners over the two days.
