It was a first visit to Kazakhstan for me and my two colleagues, Angel Garach Domech and Valentinas Stiklius.

Kazakhstan is a country with a young population, over 50 percent are under 30 years of age, and we discovered a young Kennel Union with an exciting future ahead. We received a warm welcome from the organisers and the opportunity to expand our knowledge of Kazakhstan and to discover some of its rich culture, of which they are rightly proud.

Vibrant

The Kazakhstan Kennel Union (UCK) is relatively young, formed in 1993, however, we were pleased to find a vibrant show scene, with a wonderful array of top young handlers, who seemed to handle across a number of breeds/groups.

All handling with a passion but kind and considerate to the dogs. These handlers also accepted their placings with good spirit, which was nice to see. Over the weekend we had the opportunity to see a number of the breeds associated with the Country including the Tazy Hound, the Caucasian Shepherd and the Central Asian Ovtcharka. One of the nice things that we three judges saw on the weekend was the quality of the dogs and the warm reception that each winner received, particularly in the Group/BIS ring.

On Day 1, Valentinas judged Best in Show and his choice was the lovely young Bernese Mountain Dog, Algrand Berni Caesar. RBIS under Valentinas was the Labrador Retriever bitch, Mountain Glory Ball of the Boll. Day 2 and I had the honour of awarding Best in Show, and my choice was the Alaskan Malamute, a young male simply named, Absolute.

RBIS was the Toy Poodle, Classy Mamma Mia. Once again it was lovely to see the emotion of the Best in Show winners, something which has sadly disappeared in many countries.
