While last year the show was granted only a CAC title and the number of entries was rather low with 1,245, this year can be called an explosion. A CACIB title was on offer this year and along with the fine reputation of the Leuvense Dog Club, Lovanium made history, breaking its own record with 1,884 entries, an increase of over 50%!!!

With 3,231 entries nothing was alarming for the committee of one of the most successful shows of Belgium. For years now this show has attracted over 3,000 dogs from all over Europe and a lot from the United Kingdom. This year 23 countries were represented and 202 UK entries. About half of the entries were Belgian dogs...

Libramont 2015 Featured

Last year was the first time round for this new show. In fact it was not a new show, as Libramont is the replacement of the Namur Dog Show, which was saved from disappearing by Mr Detry. While last year it was a CAC show, expectations were high this year for its first CACIB show.

I wondered if the increase in entries for the Belgian dog shows had something to do with the Baby Class that is always so lovely to see. All those little soldiers lining up in the main ring and presenting themselves to the world. The catalogue of the show of Liège has several statistics, and one of them shows the number of dogs per class.

Don't mistake the LKV Show in Genk for the Ambiorix Trophy that is also in Genk, both in the very same halls. The Haspengouwse Kynological Society is the youngest and had the ambition to have its own CACIB. As that caused a problem for the Belgian Kennel Club (same area, same halls, etc) it was decided that the CACIB was given alternatively to each club.

It is maybe one of Belgium's smallest shows, but one of the cosiest. The sports cente is surrounded by green and trees and you are half inside, half outside. You don't have the feeling of being in a hall. Inside its bright, although the contrast with outside is significant when the sun is shining, which was the case.

A few weeks ago I received an unusual mail from the committee. With much pride they announced an impressive number of entries. In 2013 the show had 1,619 entries, two years later 2,377 dogs were in competition, amazing!

I wrote last year that Genk would not get a nice present for its 35th Anniversary. Indeed, this popular show was only granted a CAC show, while two years ago this was the third biggest show of Belgium. But the exhibitors thought different. They wanted to celebrate with the committee and entered 1,724 dogs, and that's a lot for a CAC show, more than many CACIB shows.

Best in Show at the 51st Euro Dog Show, Kortrijk, was the Wirehaired Fox Terrier, Kingarthur Van Foliny Home, owned by De-Munter, Malzoni Jnr & Uytterwijk from Belgium; Res BIS was the Papillon, Ch Kandyno De Costalina, owned by Jan Roosens from France and Third was the Bernese Mountain Dog, Mozart Van ’T Stokerybox, owned by Delrue-Vandewalle from Belgium. BIS Judge was Norman Deschuymere.
