The Russian National Collie Club inc. the Russian KC FCI International Show

Featured Written by
I HAD the great pleasure of being invited by the Russian Kennel Club to judge the Rough Collie Speciality plus the Specialities for Bullmastiffs and Dogue de Bordeaux plus Group 1 where I was treated to some very excellent specimens, the Rough Collie winning it before going RBIS. I was accompanied by Barry Makepeace (Lynaire) who not only had many breeds to judge but also 2 groups and BIS.
Moscow had suffered a deluge before the show but on the day the grounds had drained pretty well, the sun was out, and all looked promising. Wrong!
Within an hour, we were treated to all sorts of weather, ranging from early burning sunshine interspersed with continuous downpours plus an unhealthy hail storm.
However, the show went on and, thankfully, the day was ended in pleasant sunshine when it came to the groups and BIS awards.
Unfortunately, neither Barry nor I received a show catalogue so the names of the dogs are unknown but I’m sure the pictures will please. In any event, neither of us can speak Russian!
We were exceptionally well treated by the committees and the reception after the show was dutifully sprinkled with vodka. There was also a nice touch from the East European judges who raised a toast to the Queen’s special 60th celebrations.
The name of my CAC, CACIB & BOB in Bullmastiffs I do know because the owner, Dinara Anikina (Bull Strong) had some excellent exhibits & kindly e.mailed me details of the BOB, Multi Ch Show Must Go On For Bull Strong, three times Junior Club Champion, Jun Ch of Belarus, Jun Ch Belarus Molossian Club Ch of Russia, Belarus, Ch Ukraine, Moldova, Cyprus, Montenegro Ch, Ch of Mediterranean Countries, Ch Georgia, Ch Bulgaria, Belarus Ch Molossian Club, 3 x CACIBs at 19 months!
One wouldn’t need to be a breed expert to pick the dog out yet the entry of 20-odd was top quality.
The Dogue de Bordeaux entry was also of a high quality where I was pleased with my CACIB winners and I found it quite a treat judging the Argentinian Dogos, a banned breed in the UK but I found their temperaments very good.
I had a good entry of collies where my CACIBs were a couple of typy sable & whites. The BOB won G1 and RBIS while her very pretty daughter was awarded BMPIS.
There was a good entry of Shelties where I was well pleased with my CAC winners. Pembrokes & Cardigans also shone though but, understandably, were not too happy with the mudstream running through the ring following yet another cloudburst while I had interesting entries in Beardies, Rotts and four types of German Shepherds.
Barry gave G3 to a Scottish Terrier and G7 to an Irish Red Setter. He ultimately awarded BIS to the Multi Ch Scottish Terrier, having judged the breed earlier from an excellent entry.
Some of the judges involved were Shamil Abrakimov from Russia, Dr Nemanja Jovanovic from Serbia and Sergey Slukin from the Ukraine.
