Jyvaskyla, which is 170 miles north of Helsinki in Finland, played host to a two day International Show, held on 19th and 20th November where a panel of 60 judges from 22 different countries had an entry of 8,570 dogs from 249 different breeds to judge over the two days. There was good mix of judges on the panel with Brenda Banbury, Frank Kane, Liz Dunhill, Howard Ogden, Bert Easdon and Andrew Brace from the UK along with Rodney McDowell, Tony Moran, Wes McCrum and Paul and Jean Lawless from Ireland.
Poor weather conditions had created a few headaches for organiser Jarmo Hilpenen and his team, resulting in the late arrivals of some judges due to delayed flights, but they solved all the problems and the show ran smoothly, featuring a unique "Hound of Music" theme which ran throughout the Group judging on both days with ballroom dancers, dancing dogs and live vocalists re-living famous songs from the famous Sound of Music.
Best in Show on Day 1 under famous Finnish All Rounder Hans Lehtinen was the Black American Cocker Spaniel, Finnish Ch Happy Hullabaloo After Eight. Runner up was the Multi titled Lhasa Apso, Chic Choix Adrenlin Rush who is currently one of the top winning dogs in Finland. Third BIS was the American bred Multi titled Whippet Aberdeen Remarkable In Paris. Paul Lawless' Group 2 winner was the Bernese Mountain Dog Multi Ch Funatic Taittinger who had gone BOB under Frank Kane earlier that day and he was placed 4th in the BIS line up on Day 1.
Andrew Brace had the honour of judging BIS on Day 2 and his choice for the top spot was the Swedish bred Afghan Hound Multi Ch Tells Chills N' Thrills, who had earlier topped the Group under Frank Kane. Reserve Best in Show was the Affenpinscher Mambo Jambo V.Tanz Kazari. BIS 3 was the Smooth Collie Multi Ch Timonan Veronica Velvet and in 4th BIS was the Smooth Std Dachshund Unita's The King.
This show had the unique Super Best In Show, which was chosen by Finnish All Rounder Soile Bister, as she chose between the BIS Winners from both days and her choice for this supreme award was the Afghan Hound.
