I was to judge the Rough & Smooth Collies & the Polish Lowland Sheepdogs, and again the entry was over the limit so the Smooth Collies were allocated to an other judge.
Peggy had some 79 Shetland Sheepdog bitches to judge, and I note most were graded excellent. For best of breed she selected a very good, sound, sable & white bitch, a multi champion, including GB, she was Sunsweet Biggest Dream, she looked very good from the ringside and later in the day she was placed Group 2 in the strong Group being second to the eventual Reserve Best in Show a Smooth Collie.
I started with the Rough Collies, some 74 to go over in the males. I found many graded lower than excellent the main problem being tail set and carriage, The CAC winner and Best Dog was a tri colour, he was Siniketun Extreme. A good sound 7 year old who won over others by his excellent breed type, with a very good head and expression, movement and tail carriage. In britches I found far better movement and most were graded excellent. For the CAC winner & Best of Breed I selected a lovely blue merle from the open class, she was Carnousties Nefertiti, she pleased in coat colour, condition, sound movement and her overall balance, her head was correct. I later was informed that this win gave her the Finnish Champion title.
The Polish Lowland Sheepdogs had an entry of 15 all were graded excellent the breed is very very good in Finland. For best male I selected Champion Flinkbein Maly Rocky, a great dog first class to handle movement was perfect, in bitches, for Best Bitch & Best of Breed I selected, Champion Flinkbein Niz Nagroda, she was quite lovely, best of outlines, lovely coat, correct shaggy appearance, presentation was very good. I had two out standing examples in this breed here today.
I later judged the breeders final and found a classic set of Pembroke Corgis for the winning team.
The whole event was very good with excellent management by our host Mr Joni Rantanen and his committee. We wish to say a very special thank you and as always to stay and judge in Finland is a great pleasure.
