Amsterdam 2011 Show

Best in Show Winner The Crufts reserve BIS winner, Jilly, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, GB Ch Soletrader Peek A Boo, owned by Sara Robertson and handled by Gavin Robertson went one better in Amsterdam to win Best in Show under famous Italian judge Mr Paolo Dondina who was selecting BIS after performing the same task both at Westminster and of course Crufts earlier in the year.

Quite a hat trick for this popular man from Milan who clearly enjoyed the occasion in the spotlight in the excellent BIS ring facility at the Rai show centre in Amsterdam.

There was a big British contingent at the show, both on the judging panel and exhibitors, many of whom did well in the breed and going on to win BOB and compete in the group finals.

OUR DOGS asked winner Team Chairman Mr Rony Doedijns about the show and he told us….

“We were pleased that our entry was over 4250 despite the recession as I mentioned in the catalogue notes; I would like to thank all judges, exhibitors and Winner team workers for another great event. There has been a lot of competition for show entries in this special FCI centenary year so I think in the end we still present one of Europe’s top shows.

Thanks in particular to our sponsors, especially Eukanuba and Media Partners OUR DOGS and Onze Hond. We look forward to welcoming you all again at the Rai in 2012 and our dates for your diary are November 24th and 25th when we will have another top quality international panel of judges. The show layout will be the same as in 2011 with more space between the breed rings and the Square for our partners’ worked very well. In 2011 we had a lot of media attention from National television this resulted in more than 20,000 visitors this year. We will do our upmost to get this attention again in 2012. At the end the ten group winners were very worthy Amsterdam Winner finalists and the BIS and Res BIS were stunning dogs. See you all again in 2012.”

The show had a new look and feel about it with the main sponsors being placed in a central position in the Europa Hall. There did not seem to be as much benching around either and with a slight drop in entries, the Rai certainly had a more open feel about it. The recession also seems to have taken its toll with some of the regular trade stands who did not attend this year. With World and European shows in the near area there has been a lot of demand on people’s resources this year.
