Icelandic KC International Show

Featured Written by

The dog culture in Iceland is fairly new. The Icelandic Kennel Club (HRFI) was founded in 1969 and got a full membership to the FCI just last year. HRFI hosts three international shows each year, one national and occasional club shows.

At the all breed shows there are around 700 to 800 dogs entered of over, or around, 80 different breeds. That might not seem so much but the country is very closed off. No dogs from abroad are entered for shows because all dogs coming to Iceland must go through a four week expensive quarantine.

On the first weekend in September the Icelandic Kennel Club held their second International Show of the year. The judges were: Hans Van De Berg, Laurent Pichard, Eeva Rautala, Frank Kane, Agnes Kertes Ganami and Svein Helgesen.

The breeds with the highest entries were the Labradors with 59, Miniature Schnauzers (all colours) with 57, Papillons (and a Phaléne) with 38, Chihuahuas (both coats) 33, German Shepherds (both coats) with 33, Cavaliers with 28 and the Icelandic Sheepdogs with an entry of 25 dogs.

On Friday Evening we had a junior handlers competition which Frank Kane judged. Just over 20 youngsters competed there.

On Saturday we had Groups 7, 8, 9 and 10 and on Sunday, Groups 1, 2, 3, 4/6 and 5.

Best in Show went to a young male, Longcoated St. Bernard named RW-13 Sankti-Ice How Much Wood Would A Woodchuck Chuck at only 18 months of age.

BIS 2 went to a Welsh Pembroke Corgi male imported from the UK, RW-13 IS Ch Ryslip Celtic Tiger At Craigycor.

BIS 3 to an Icelandic Sheepdog female named  IS Ch Snaetinda Isafold” and BIS 4 to a Labrador Retriever male also imported from the UK named IS Sh Ch Buckholt Cecil”.

BIS Veteran went to a nine year old Siberian    Husky female named CIB IS Ch Anyka Bootylicious Babe.
