Darcy's Double Best in Show Weekend Report and Photos Paul Scanlon It was a very popular win at the Carlow and District Canine Club Championship show held at the Carlow Hurling Grounds just outside the town where the lush grass of the sports venue welcomed exhibitors to the show that brings everyone back to normality after the Munster Circuit events week further down south.

Noreen Clarke, Des Kavanagh and their team were blessed this year with generous weather and that lovely absence of rain for the day's sport and it was certainly well deserved as the effort and hard work were there to be seen by all.

With the pressure of the speculation regarding recent events connected to one listed judge finally allayed a few days before the show, there was now doubt that Carlow would be in the limelight for the right reasons and what better way to celebrate the show than with a popular Best in Show win.

Rosemary Daly Meehan of the Abylity Belgian Shepherds and Schipperkes had the honour of selecting the Carlow BIS 2012 winner. Rosemary has been a great supporter of the Carlow show down the years and it was very apt that she be centre ring for this years event.

Her decision brought a huge cheer of approval from the ringside as she chose Howard and Sally Tonks' Pyrenean Mountain Dog , the newly triple crowned CH/GB CH/INT CH Shanlimore Maverick who was handled to the success by Dione Fitzsimons of the Fitzkin Dobes.

It was a fantastic week for 'Darcy' and the team as he had taken his third CC at Richmond on the previous weekend, then took his Carlow BIS win on Saturday and the following day made it a lovely treble by taking Best in Show at the PMD Club of Ireland breed specialty held in Enniscorthy. At Carlow there was another RBIS for Sean Carroll and James Newman's top winning Papillon Multi CH Denemore Iconsruben who was sent through to the line up by Dick McCoy.

The Combined Canine Gain Pup of the Year 2012 Final qualifying spot went to Des and Joyce Manton's Old English Sheepdog Bellablue Bewitched by Scallywag who now goes forward to the final next Easter. The show was generously sponsored by almost local company Connolly's Redmills who have been strong friends of the Carlow team for many years.
