THE Nordskanska Kennel Klubben Sweden National Championship Show was held on 19th & 20th May 2012, in the town of Hassleholm, in the south of Sweden.

Peggy and I had been invited to judge at this show on the two days and say at the outset the event was quitewonderful. Flight from Manchester to Copenhagen then a train journey across the bridge from Denmark to Sweden arriving at the town of Hassleholm was quite exciting, the bridge connecting the two countries is a wonderful piece of engineering, and we stayed at the Hotel Statt over the weekend, a very good hotel with food and accommodation at a 4 star level.

On Day One Peggy judged the Dalmatians and the Best Veteran Group, I judged the Rottweilers and the Best Puppy Group. For the Best of Breed Dalmatians Peggy found a very good sound example with the correct black spot decorations a very good body make and shape topline, loin and croup all good, he moved with a good style covering the ring with a good front extension and rear drive. He was Spotdogs Beat Box, the Best Bitch was again a black spot, Solbos Katitzi.

For the Best Veteran on day one Peggy’s choice was a lovely Basenji tricolour bitch. My Rottweilers were a mixed bunch. I found many short on the leg and very loaded on the shoulder.

For my winners of the CACs I had to go to the junior classes. Best of Breed was the bitch, Cessi, a very pleasing sound example with the correct tan markings good pencil lines on toes, she has a very good head mouth and flew pigmentation are correct she has a great temperament and handled and moved well. The Best Opposite Sex was Heizas Gonzzo-Gino. For the Best Puppy on day one I selected a very good sound Alaskan Malamute male.

On Day Two Peggy judged the Rough & Smooth Collies, and the Best Veteran Group. I judged the Australian Cattle dogs and the Best Puppy Group. Peggy’s Best of Breed Rough Collie was a quite lovely blue merle bitch, Callahorns Quite Frosty Blue. She was very good, her coat and condition sparkled in the sunlight, her head is correct giving of the required expression, she moved with a good style.

The Best Opposite Sex was a tricolour male from the open class, Amyfield Born To Be Wild, a dog in perfect condition, head and all about him pleased, he was very sound on the move, all the Rough Collies were awarded excellent grading, the Best of Breed Smooth Collie was a tricolour bitch, Smooth X Travaganca, again quite lovely temperament and movement good, lovely balanced make and shape. The Best veteran winner on day two was a good sound Bearded Collie male.

In Australian Cattle Dogs my Best of Breed was Snjos Blue Free Spirit, a blue speckle, a little on the light side in build but she moved well and had a very pleasing head with the required Bentley star.

My Best Puppy on day two was a very promising Kerry Blue Terrier bitch. The event was very well managed in a quite lovely setting, hospitality throughout was first class, other UK judges at this how were Mrs Sandra Wigglesworth judging the Shetland Sheepdogs, and Mr Derek Smith judging the Lancashire Heelers and the Shetland Sheepdogs, and Mr George Donaldson who judged the CKCS. George looked resplendent in his highland kilt and dress, and had the largest breed entry at the show. In conclusion we say a special thank you to Mrs Christina Bjerstedt Olsson for her excellent organisation.

And a quite fabulous weekend visit to this lovely part of Sweden.
