Sweden KCInt Show &Sheltie Speciality

Featured Written by
The Swedish Kennel Club held their International two-day championship show at Boras with top entries all round, which is more than can be said for the weather! However, Robert Paust, both in his official and unofficial capacities more than compensated for the intermittent showers with his incredible sense of humour.

The hospitality was excellent, but the evening meals and entertainment went beyond the pale, notwithstanding Swedish Midsummer Buffet rounded off by their favourite ‘midsummer dessert’ at the end of the meal.
There was a real international flavour of judges and I was happily surprised to meet Serbian, Nemanja Jovanovic, whom I was judging with in Moscow only weeks before.
I was part of a lovely group of GB officials, where, on the first day, I judged Rough and Smooth Collies (36 entries), Michael Bray judged Sheltie dogs (40) and Brian Hull, accompanied by wife Gill, the bitches (41), while Betty Peach judged the Japanese Spitz (34).
From a quality entry of Roughs, my CACIB & BOB was Ulla Berg Person’s homebred b/m bitch, Int Ch Bermarks Olwen (Ch Windy Forests Like A Surprise ex NW03 Bermarks Flame In Blue). RBOB, CAC & CACIB was the sable and white dog, Dreams Of Woodland George Clooney.
My BOB Smooth was Mora Jessica Stens’ famed s/w dog, Multi Ch Clingstone’s No Doubt (Multi Ch Bell Pepper’s Datapen ex Multi Ch Sandcastle’s Sweet Valentine), bred by Satu Asikainen, who was later awarded G2. I believe this was his 69th CACIB.
From her nice entry of Japanese Spitz, Betty Peach selected son and mother for her CACIB’s, Multi Ch Chezzay’s Heroic Helix (Multi Ch Stjarnsmallens Fenomen ex Multi Ch Chezzay’s Annie The Almighty) and Multi Ch Chezzay’s Annie The Almighty (Ch Kannibalen’s Almighty Angus ex Multi Ch Enfloy’z La’Diva Name Of The Game).
Michael Bray’s BD & CACIB winner was Fin/Swe Ch Rannerdale Oliver Twist (Rannerdale The Time Warp ex Ch Rannerdale Angel O’The North), bred in the UK by Clare Stafford and owned by Pirkko Karlsson. Brian’s BB & CACIB was Swe Ch Shellrick’s Just A Wish (Ch Shellrick’s You May Me Luck ex Lundecock’s Nightspot), owned and bred by Anne Reider. She was BOB.
On Sunday, Betty and I judged the Sheltie Speciality, where the best part of the morning involved dodging the rain, which didn’t quite work out too well for my co-judge! To avoid the deluge, canopies were extended from the stewards’ tent where the Shelties were to be judged on the table under cover before being moved.
Poor Betty’s canopy quickly ballooned with water before collapsing and giving her a huge involuntary shower! She was not amused, having spent a fortune on having her hair done. But she did, later, see the funny side of it.
We had an entry of 105 between us. My CAC in dogs was Swe Ch Lundecock’s Light My Fire (Sw/Dk/Fi Ch Tachnamadra The Designer ex Sw Ch Lundecock’s Good Time Girl), a s/w bred by Johnny Andersson and owned by Louise Kasurinen. RCAC was yesterday’s hero, Fi/Sw Ch Rannerdale Oliver Twist, shown by breeder Clare Stafford for Pirkko Karlsson.
By amazing coincidence, Bette chose for her CAC the litter sister, Swe Ch Lundecock’s Time To Party, also a s/w and owned by Marvi Majala. Betty judged BIS and gave it to the dog.
I judged BP and awarded it to Anne Reider’s homebred s/w Shellrick’s You Are My Sunshine. BMP was Kiki Andersson Lundin’s homebres s/w, Wheldon Simply Simon, sired in the UK by Evad Dream Stone of Lochkaren out of Sheldon Pretty Smart.
When it came to BOB, the sun was breaking through to end a lovely session of going over some real quality Shelties where, despite the early showers, presentation, as well as temperament, was of a very high standard.
Incidentally, Betty’s other half, Jim spotted a silver Hyundi with the cherished numberplate, SHELTIE (see picture). What would that be worth in the UK?
