Best in Show was the Papillon, Planet Waves Forever Young Daydream Believers, owned by Miss Kathleen Roosens.
A great panel of judges from the UK and beyond, a warm welcome and a whole host of specials over the four days and we can only be talking about one thing, as last week the Birmingham National rolled into Stafford for its 160th show, and what a show it was.

West of England Ladies Kennel Association kicks off the outdoor show season, this year saw a very challenging experience for the committee, trade stands and exhibitors with the before, arrival and aftermath of a yellow weather warning issued by the met office.


The winner of the International Junior Handling Competition was Destiny Hamilton from Australia, second place was Johanna Sieger from Germany and third place was Kristina Munkova from Slovakia pictured with judge Jason Hoke and organiser Liz Cartledge.
This year I decided to travel to Birmingham to watch the Junior handling competition and it was a very wise idea - I enjoyed every second of it and, as always, memories from the past came back to me.


Best in Show at the Working and Pastoral Breeds Association of Wales 2019 was the young Alaskan Malamute owned and bred by Sue Ellis, Chayo Cause Celebre seen here relaxing after the show. Curtis was titled on the day and became the kennel’s 21st Champion. He is the son of the Best in Show winning male, Ch Chayo My Prerogative, also owned and bred by Sue.
Arriving at the show located within the Royal Welsh Showgrounds at Builth Wells, Bannerdown’s Benching Team and committee were directing all exhibitors to the correct parking areas so that exhibitors parked as conveniently to their halls as possible.


The winner of the Eukanuba World Challenge 2019 held at Crufts was the Old English Sheepdog, Ch Bottom Shaker Zephyr Dream owned by Jozsef Koroknai, bred by Istvan Szetmar and handled by Zsolt Hano. WELL, THAT was a good one, wasn’t it?  My 29th Crufts (I know that’s just a short time compared to some!) but I think it was one of the busiest I’ve seen in a while; in fact the Kennel Club Chairman Steve Croxford announced on Sunday night that just over 166,500 people came through the door!


Best in Show at National Working & Pastoral Breeds was the Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Ch Viskalys My Way Or No Way To Chandlimore (Imp) owned by Nagrecha, Mattisson-Sandstrom & Sandstrom, pictured with best in show judge Geoff Corish. Handled by Andi Horwood.
Beautiful weather, sunshine and a cool breeze allowed for a great day at this year’s NW&PBS, held under the gorgeous rolling hills of Malvern.


Houndshow 2018 Featured

Sara Roberston with Multiple Best in Show winner Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, Ch Soletrader Magic Mike, co-owned with Wendy Doherty, taking the top spot at the Houndshow 2018.
What a day for the Soletrader Kennels, when Ch. Soletrader Magic Mike won yet another CC, bringing his total to 23. This win today gave him his 22nd group.


Crufts 2018 Featured

Jill Peak’s choice for Best in show at Crufts 2018 was the Whippet, Ch Collooney Tartan Tease JW WW’17 owned by David and Yvette Short and handled by Yvette. Tease was bred by Viv Coulter. I WAS honored and delighted to be given the lifetime opportunity to judge Crufts BIS 2018. The lineup of dogs was second to none – seven outstanding examples of their breeds.
